Overview of the role

The role of the Healthcare Data Analyst is a key part of ensuring the quality of our processes, products, services, and software. The ideal candidate will have an analytical mind and be able to break a complex problem into pieces, ask the right questions, and propose good solutions. This is the perfect opportunity for the successful candidate to become a part of a unique, energetic, and highly motivated team that develops information which will influence the general public, our members, and the wider market sector of privately funded healthcare.

In this role, you will support all aspects of development and documentation of the information PHIN publishes (mainly in the form of measures) and ensure it is completed to a consistently high standard. You will carry out analyses to support the production of meaningful insights into the data held by PHIN.

As an indication of the type of data PHIN processes, it typically describes the treatments patients receive whilst in hospital and their outcomes. It also includes details of patients’ perspectives on how they were treated and the extent to which they feel they have benefited from their treatment.

Key deliverables

  • Interpret and analyse the data PHIN holds, this includes data submitted directly via hospitals or third-party data e.g., NHS Digital’s Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) data.
  • Present key findings to stakeholders and management, both internally and externally.
  • Querying data in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
  • Working closely with the Business Analysts to deliver against requirements
  • Creating wireframes to support the delivery of dashboards
  • Developing dashboards to present insights to internal and external stakeholders using PowerBI
  • Research into existing healthcare measurement methods
  • Testing outputs against requirements to ensure accurate publication of information
  • Support in devising possible solutions to deliver CMA Order requirements and other key milestones, in line with the Company’s vision and ambitions
  • Collaborate with the rest of the Informatics Team and the Technology Team to help support the delivery of the Business Intelligence and Analytics (BI&A) strategy

Essential skills and experience

  • Highly analytical with strong and demonstrable problem-solving ability
  • At least 1 years’ experience in both SQL (development and execution of database queries) and Power BI
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a Data Analyst role or similar
  • Able to understand various data structures
  • Working knowledge of DAX, Power Map, Power Query and Power Pivot in Power BI
  • Experience in presenting, visualising and communicating complex data to mixed-ability audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Confident working with senior decision makers
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills
  • Experience working cross-functionally on projects

Desirable skills

  • Experience using Apps in PowerBI
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience of working with healthcare data
  • Working knowledge of HES and/or other health-related data
